Spectrum Networks, the hyper-local cable news operation of Charter Communications, is preparing to launch its Southern California news operation this November.

With plans to add 125 employees including 30 multimedia reporters, Spectrum News Los Angeles aims to go beyond the car chase and fire, focusing on in-depth reporting and long-form storytelling.

The new network’s schedule will be anchored by a weekday morning show known as “The Beat on 1,” similar to sister-station NY1’s “Mornings on 1,” with Giselle Fernandez, Lisa McRee, Alex Cohen and Melvin Robert.

Lisa McRee, formerly of ABC News and “Good Morning America” will host a nightly news magazine while Melvin Robert will host a weekly show focused on arts and culture, “The SoCal Scene.”

Other announced programming includes “Inside The Issues,” a political program hosted by Alex Cohen, and “LA Stories,” a weekly documentary-style show featuring in-depth one-on-one interviews with local newsmakers hosted by Giselle Fernandez.

Spectrum Networks also plans additional original programming for primetime which will be announced closer to launch.
