Ambitious ‘Strategy Room’ Webcasts stream eight hours of content a day
AdWeek has an in-depth profile on Fox News Channel’s “Strategy Room” initiative, a venture that provides eight hours of live Web streaming video a day.
Online Monday through Friday, the program originates from the 14th floor of Fox News Channel’s offices in New York City from what is described as a “compact” set.
The set, shown at right, is more fleshed out than many Web show sets, complete with a panel desk (that can, amazingly, squeeze six people around it) and several plasma screens along with a branded header element. The Strategy Room, also uses a second “room” — a studio that contains a more laid back set with brick walls, no desk and funky decorative items hanging from the wall.
Originally part of the channel’s 2008 election coverage, the article reports Fox is now using this a key component of its online strategy and may be looking to expanding the Web stream’s programming in the future.
The naming choice is rather interesting since it closely mirrors CNN’s moniker “The Situation Room,” which itself was often confused with “The Situation,” a show hosted by Tucker Carlson on MSNBC that was eventually rebranded as just “Tucker.”
Election night brings changes to cable news

CNN, Fox News and MSNBC all debuted updated or tweaked graphics for Tuesday’s election.

MSNBC uses wrong Fox logo

TVNewser reports that MSNBC’s “Hardball” used the logo of Fox Broadcasting during a “White House vs. Fox” segment Monday.
MSNBC told the blog that the logo was used in error and that it would be updated for the 7 p.m. version of “Hardball.”
TVNewser also notes that “When Bill O’Reilly references MSNBC, he generally uses the umbrella ‘NBC News’ or ‘NBC’s cable news network” description’” rather than the channel’s proper name.

FNC briefly ‘reassigns’ Sanford to wrong party

TVNewser noticed that Fox News Channel incorrectly identified South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford as a democrat. The site reports: “The (D) on the lower third banner appeared for about seven seconds. The banner was then switched to quotes Sanford was giving before the correct (R) designation was inserted” and also mentions this occurred in October 2006, Fox News mislabeled disgraced Florida GOP congressman Mark Foley as a democrat.
Hip to be square: Meet FNC’s cube
A tipster shared a video that takes viewers behind the scenes of the “cube” in the new Fox News HD studio.
Fox News takes dayside HD
Johnny Dollar reports Fox News Channel has gone HD during its dayside hours with an updated set. The set uses the main Fox News Channel HD headquarters, previously used during the election season, in Studio J.
The new home for Fox’s dayside programming gives the talent many locations to shoot from and lots of unique gizmos to play with including multiple monitors and a Perceptive Pixel touch screen.
FoxNews.com covering today with blog

As we noted yesterday, FoxNews.com didn’t seem to have a special inauguration section of its site up and running last night. They’ve since launched one — sort of.
The site has added a blog site, which seems like a half-hearted attempt at coverage. As of now, there are some small and poorly formatted entries as well as some links to historic information and related headlines. Missing is any prominent video features, though the site is offering “live event” chats.
Glenn Beck debuts show from Fox HD studio

Glenn Beck’s new show debuted on Fox News Channel this evening. The show is broadcast from the network’s new HD studio. The area of the set being used by Beck includes a large video screen, multiple flat panels and a staircase. The shiny glass desk is accented by Beck’s trademark microphone.
The show’s logo utilizes the letters “GB” with “waves” pulsating out from the left and right. It’s a bold, strong logo that uses red and whitish-silver tones.

News sites gear up for inauguration coverage
This year’s presidential inauguration is likely to be a milestone in how watch and interact with the event. With CNN set to stream the ceremony live and allow Facebook users to interact in real-time, its clear the 2008 inauguration will be high-tech.
The new sites, meanwhile, have started to pull out their special coverage.

CNN has a special section under its CNNPolitics.com brand for the coverage, which includes plenty of video-based options and interactivity.
Now solo ‘Hannity’ goes HD, looks toward Internet interactivity
Fox News Channel’s “Hannity” program, which replaced “Hannity & Colmes,” after co-host Alan Colmes left the show, is the latest FNC show to make the switch to HD, reports TVNewser. The show is using the same studio used for election night coverage and also sports a new logo and revamped Web site.
The show’s producer also tells TVNewser to expect Web interactivity and other features to be added to the show, following the move made by FNC as a whole.
‘Studio B’ takes up residence in 12H

One of Shepherd Smith’s shows, “The Fox Report,” has been using Fox News Channels new HD studio 8H for about a month now, and now his other show has followed suit, reports TVNewser.
“Studio B” has, somewhat ironically, moved over to studio 8H. Though the show name and studio number don’t match, it’s probably not likely that Fox will rename the studio. Somehow “Studio 8H” doesn’t quite have the ring of “Studio B.”
I always thought “Studio B” was a little bit of an odd naming choice since, for me at least, it seems to imply the show is somehow second-rate (think “B-Roll” or “B-list”)…
