NBC testing ‘Nightly News Now’ for mobile devices
Via WebNewser, NBC is testing a new web update newscast called “Nightly News Now.”
The one to two minute long program recaps the day’s news in a format designed for mobile devices.
For the moment “Nightly News Now” is being tested out on the weekends, with Lester Holt anchoring. The plan is to monitor the response to the webcast, with the possibility of expanding it down the line.
MSNBC for a while has put web only video on its site, complete with an anchor intro from a news nook. We’ll see if this catches on, but at the moment it could use some more polishing.
‘Meet the Press’ to debut new set and look Sunday

“Meet the Press” will be debuting a new sleek set this weekend and David Gregory gave an early tour.
The set appears to have bookcases all over with two large RP screens. The set also features two desks, one round and one rectangle. More photos and a video tour after the jump.
‘Meet the Press’ to debut new set
NBC’s “Meet the Press” is moving to a new home May 2.
The current set, which has been used for years, debuted in 1997 during Tim Russert’s time as host.
The set will feature two tables — one circular and one rectangular as well as two large-scale video screens that will display a background of the White House, floor-to-ceiling bookcases. Overall the look is described as “ultramodern.”

Screen grabs of new ‘Today’ graphics posted

We’ve posted screen captures from NBC’s new “Today Show” graphics package.
‘Today’ debuts new graphics

NBC’s “Today Show” has a new graphical look that has ties to the earlier MSNBC redesign but also has some strange design choices.
The new, cleaner look, gets rid of the sharp “ribbons” and somewhat choppy animation of the old package in exchange for white boxes accented with color, similar to the look at MSNBC.
More images, a video clip and commentary after the jump.
MSNBC debuts HD studio in D.C.

TVNewser has photos of the new Washington, D.C. studio for MSNBC and NBC News.
The new studio mimics the New York City studio in many ways and will be used for “Hardball” and other programs originating from D.C. We hope to have screen grabs and analysis later today.
MSNBC adds account list to side of Twitter pages

MSNBC has added a list of its various Twitter accounts to the side of its main Twitter pages. The list is broken into three broad categories: one for its various news feeds, one for personalities and one for shows.
It also appears this Twitter page has been set up correctly so the background doesn’t repeat on extremely large screens, something we noted in an earlier post. It’s interesting to note that David Shuster’s account hasn’t been updated (he used to use “Shuster1600” but users visiting that page are told “David’s real #twitter account is @DavidShuster. sorry for the confusion,” a change obviously brought on by the end of the “1600 Pennsylvania Avenue” show.
We also note that at least one MSNBC personality who tweets is missing: anchor Alex Witt.
Behind the storm: Getting to know Brainstorm

This image, from MSNBC, NBC Nightly News and Brainstorm America, show NBC anchor Ann Curry in the 3D environment created by Brainstorm.
This is the first of an exclusive three-part series on Brainstorm America, the company behind NBC News’ 3D election graphics. Part two, coming Friday, will focus on how Brainstorm’s team developed the NBC News look and feel. Part three, coming next Wednesday, will cover Brainstorm’s vision for using its technology in local news.
With one of the hottest election contests in recent memory taking center stage last November, television news outlets scrambled to outdo each other with the biggest and best technological enhancements to covering the news.

New look for NBC London bureau

NBC’s Brian Williams reported “NBC Nightly News” from London last night, reporting from the network’s London offices.
More details and images after the jump.
‘Nightly’ graphic goes sideways

Last night during “NBC Nightly News” a graphic was displayed while Brian Williams talked about AIG bonuses illustrating the amount of taxpayer money used, but the picture in the graphic was angled towards the wrong direction. The picture should have pointed upwards with the buildings risings up, instead they were crushing in on each other.
This could be for artistic reasons, but the picture could have been cropped to better use the box already on the graphic. Continue reading for another example of how the AIG graphics looked. (more…)
A look back at ‘Dateline’s look

The new look for “Dateline,” introduced a few months ago, has a dramatic look with a glowing animated background and dramatic, ominous shadowing on the letters. The design also introduced a new font from the show’s previous look, shown after the jump.
