‘Nightly’ and ‘Today’ boasting Vancouver-themed Twitter backgrounds

The Twitter pages for “NBC Nightly News” and the “Today Show” are sporting Olympics-themed Twitter backgrounds that incorporate the shows’ logos into the shield-like logo NBC uses for its Olympics coverage. Interestingly, however, MSNBC’s hasn’t been updated.
‘Nightly’ adds social media, technology icons to close

“NBC Nightly News” has added Twitter, SMS, Facebook and Podcast icons to its closing copyright graphic, as shown above. The graphic also includes the “always on” tagline and the show’s Web site address.
Morgan Freeman takes over as voice of ‘Evening News’
CBS News has announced that actor Morgan Freeman will replace Walter Cronkite as the announcer for “CBS Evening News.”
‘Nightly’ switches pre-show tease background

We noticed “NBC Nightly News” has been using a different background for its pre-show teases.
‘Nightly’s’ newsroom broadcast a mess

Last night “NBC Nightly News,” which was being presented with limited commercials by the oddly-named drug Trilipix, decided to cover the two big stories of the day — Iran and President Barack Obama’s approval ratings — by broadcasting from the newsroom.
It’s an approach the program has used before, more notably when covering the financial crisis from CNBC headquarters and, the next day, back at 30 Rock.
However, this attempt came off poorly executed and unpolished.

New angle for ‘Nightly’?

On Tuesday’s edition of “NBC Nightly News,” Brian Williams appeared on a camera in shot that I personally haven’t seen before. It seemed to be slightly off-axis than the typical straight-on shot through the studio window into the newsroom.
One of the dominant elements of the shot is one of the rectangular support structures with a matching silver-toned NBC peacock mounted on it.
‘Nightly’ uses monitor array to showcase first pup

During Tuesday’s edition of “NBC Nightly News,” producers elected to use the set’s monitor array wall to display video of Barack Obama’s new dog Bo. More images after the jump…
‘Nightly’ graphic goes sideways

Last night during “NBC Nightly News” a graphic was displayed while Brian Williams talked about AIG bonuses illustrating the amount of taxpayer money used, but the picture in the graphic was angled towards the wrong direction. The picture should have pointed upwards with the buildings risings up, instead they were crushing in on each other.
This could be for artistic reasons, but the picture could have been cropped to better use the box already on the graphic. Continue reading for another example of how the AIG graphics looked. (more…)
WMAQ graphics package posted

We’ve added images from WMAQ-TV, the NBC O&O in Chicago. The station’s new look is a bold combination of blue and purple tones.
I’ve always thought purple was an under-used and under-appreciate color for TV news graphics. The “NBC Nightly News” graphics package that used a lighter shade of purple and gold was very unique and had an elegant look. WESH-TV in Orlando, Fla. used to use a rich deep violet for its dominant colors that, combined with oranges and golds, really made a splash.
‘Nightly’ utilizes little-used corner of studio for Hudson pilot interview

“NBC Nightly News” featured an in-studio interview with the crew of the U.S. Airways Flight 1549 last night. Producers set up aviation correspondent Tom Costello and the interviewees to the left of the studio’s main rear projection screen. Crew members set on a riser with Costello perched on a director’s chair down on the floor.
‘Nightly’ flubs Brady OTS

A tipster reports that on last night’s “NBC Nightly News” NBC showed an OTS when reporting on the death of columnist James Brady. However, the image in the photo was of former White House Press Secretary James Brady.
‘Nightly’ makes L3 slipup
It happens fairly frequently in local news, but you don’t see it too often on the networks: an errant lower third popping up on screen. But it happened Monday night on the east coast feed of “NBC Nightly News” during a story on product sizes and prices when a lower third sporting Chris Jansing’s name appeared on screen briefing instead of a teaser to the Nightly Web site.
