Colorado Springs station adds wildfire hashtag to bug

KRDO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Colorado Springs quickly mobilized its news team to report on the wildfires that are ravaging the region but also encouraged users to use a Twitter hashtag to track coverage and share their own experiences.
The station added #WaldoCanyonFire just beneath its live bug. LostRemote’s Cory Bergman notes this is the first time he’s noticed a story-specific hashtag being used in the early hours of a developing story.
With many residents no doubt displaced by the fires, Colorado Springs stations are using social media and Web streaming to provide coverage in as many ways as possible, Bergman notes.
