Fox Sports made an embarrassing mistake Monday on its website after wrestler Hamid Soryan became the first Iranian to win gold in wrestling with a clever but erroneous headline.
The website headline read “It’s in the Baghdad!”
Cute, right?
Well, only if the pun makes factual sense too. And in this case it doesn’t. Baghdad is, of course, located in Iraq, not Iran.
Gawker first noticed the error and apparently it took Fox Sports over an hour to fix the mistake.
Back in 2009, Fox Sports corporate cousin Fox News Channel managed to “relocate” Egypt in an on-screen map. In 2011, Fox News labeled a headshot of President Barak Obama as “Romney” and also mislabeled the state of Utah.
