With college football season underway and the U.S. Open in full swing, ESPN has rolled out a microphone flag update for its field-side reporters.
The new design, part of a marketing push for ESPN’s mobile app, uses a singular red “E” that matches the network’s app icon.
ESPN’s previous mic flag debuted in 2004, seeing only slight updates over the past 10 plus years of usage.
Sports Business Daily notes the change is not permanent and intended to last only a week, but ESPN has not made a final decision on how long the new design will be used on-air.
Commercials and other branding have also rolled out for the mobile app, such as on ESPN’s ticker.
