‘Today’ revamps open with less rings, more rectangles

Less than a week after naming Hoda Kotb the permanent coanchor of “Today,” NBC News has rolled out a new open that eliminates the 3D 30 Rock and rings while switching to simplified color scheme.

Starting Jan. 2, 2018, NBC added Kotb’s name to the same open it used when Matt Lauer was host of the show, after having dropped the host names from the open altogether starting the day Lauer’s firing was announced.

The new open, meanwhile, retains some of the old look’s elements, including the condensed typeface and rectangular elements, but adds more of an emphasis on a white and orange color scheme as well as eliminating the the circular elements.
