The Weather Channel is planning to demonstrate the power a tornado can wreak by using immersive mixed reality to “hit” its Atlanta headquarters with a twister.

During the 6, 7 and 8 a.m. eastern hours, on camera meteorologist Jim Cantore will use the IMR technology to showcase the damage tornados can bring as well as provide safety and scientific background information.

The event is part of a partnership with The Future Group the network announced in April 2018.

The network is promoting the event with a short teaser clip showing Cantore attempting to open a blue door labeled “Studio 9” but being unable to open the entryway due to fierce winds — while crumbled papers blow through the opening he is able to pry open.
