Burn’s technique of having still photos slowly zoom in or out or pan left to right as also used by NBC, ABC and CBS utilizing footage of Manafort and star witness Rick Gates entering and leaving the courthouse, as well as archival shots.
On the “CBS Evening News,” a courtroom sketch was used as a barely visible background image, with mugshot-style images of key players in the case along with the text of statements they made in court appearing to one side.
“ABC World News Tonight” used a similar approach, though opted out of the courtroom sketch background and use larger photographs of witnesses and attorneys.
