Network morning news covers Megyn Kelly’s ‘backface’ controversy

After “NBC Nightly News” was the only evening network newscast to cover the controversy over Megyn Kelly’s comments on “blackface” on the Tuesday Oct. 23, edition of “Megyn Kelly Today,” the story gained more traction overnight and was featured on all three network morning shows.

Good Morning America‘ teased the story under the title ‘blackface backlash.’

GMA‘ covered the story at about 7:34 a.m. eastern, including an in-studio standup that, incidentally, was a bit of a bumpy shot and also captured part of another camera’s teleprompter in frame.

Today,’ meanwhile, offered a full package at about 7:31 a.m. and then a roundtable-style discussion featuring Craig Melvin and Al Roker, who are both black. Later in the morning, after the first two hours of ‘Today’ aired, Kelly apologized at the top of ‘Megyn Kelly Today,’ which starts at 9 a.m. eastern.
