“Chyron” is a brand name for systems that producer graphics inserted on video signals. The brand is owned by Chyron, which was previously known as ChyronHego.
Over the years, the term “chyron” has (incorrectly) become a generic term for any lower third, insert graphic, banner or other similar design. Many media outlets and even those in the TV industry (also incorrectly) refer to any graphic as a “chyron” even if the system powering it is not made by the company Chyron.
NewscastStudio lowercases “chyron” to refer the generic use of the word when necessary to give context to readers, but capitalizes it when in reference to the company or its products.
