Nexstar’s KOIN in Portland, Oregon, has debuted a new set from FX Design Group.
Like many of the Nexstar sets that have debuted over the past few years, this set places the anchor desk in the corner and places the station logo as a prominent element between the anchor two-shot.
In this case, it’s on a frosted glass panel backed with a dramatically lit faux wood column.
On either side of the column, a beach scene provides a subtle local look framed out by gray and internally lit elements.
Camera right of the anchor desk features a video wall backed with more wood and stacked stone with dramatic downlighting behind a frosted CBS eye logo.
FX worked with Digital Video Group to provide technology integration, with Neoti supplying the LED video wall panels.
This transitions to the weather center, which features a standing presentation pod and additional video panels.
Camera left of the anchor desk are four metal suspension cables inspired by the Tilikum Crossing Bridge.
Suspended behind these are three rectangular panels that add an additional layer between the “bridge” and sea view behind it.
Beyond this is an additional, slightly larger video wall and a multipurpose standup area with vertical monitor and printed graphic panels featuring the local “Portland” sign from above the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall marquee.
The set also includes a dramatic interview area with unique furnishings, more faux wood and stone and angled elements that form a peaked pair of “windows.”
There’s also a built-in fireplace with bold white frame, a look that’s also used in the camera left header and built-in shelving on the right side.
Starburst style gobos aimed above the fireplace’s wall-mounted TV monitor and center column add a bit of fun and texture to the space.
